State Disability Access Fee and Resources

Under federal and state law, compliance with disability access laws is a serious and significant responsibility that applies to all California building owners and tenants with buildings open to the public. You may obtain information about your legal obligations and how to comply with disability access laws at the following agencies:

State Disability Access Fee

California Senate Bill 1186 (SB 1186) which was enacted in 2012, adds a state fee on any applicant for a local business license or similar instrument or permit, or renewal thereof. California Assembly Bill 1379 (AB 1379), which was enacted in 2017, increased the state fee from $1 to $4. The purpose is to increase disability access and compliance with construction-related accessibility requirements and to develop educational resources for businesses in order to facilitate compliance with federal and state disability laws, as specified.

The fee is required to be collected by all cities and counties throughout California, including the City of Cerritos. This new law requires that the City provide the following notices:

State Disability Access Resources

California Assembly Bill 3002 (AB 3002) which was enacted in 2018 requires local jurisdictions to make readily available information regarding disability access resources. The State of California Department of General Services Division of the State Architect has provided information regarding disability access requirements and resources in the following notice available at the following links:
