Bruce W. Barrows, Councilmember

Councilmember Bruce W. Barrows was unanimously appointed to the Cerritos City Council in May of 2020 to fill a declared vacancy in the office of City Councilmember and was named Mayor Pro Tem in 2022 and Mayor in 2023. Councilmember Barrows was first elected to the Cerritos City Council in April 1994 and was re-elected in 1999. After sitting out due to term limits, Councilmember Barrows was elected to the City Council again in 2007 and re-elected in 2011. He served as Mayor in 1997–1998, 2002–2003, 2009–2010, 2013–2014 and 2023–2024. Prior to his election to the City Council in 1994, Councilmember Barrows served six years on the City’s Planning Commission.

Personal and Professional

He and his wife Teresa were married in 1972 and have resided in Cerritos since 1978. They raised their children in Cerritos, including three sons Josh (wife Yensley), Nathan (wife April) and Daniel, and one daughter, Jessica Roberts (husband Glenn), and are blessed with three granddaughters, Savannah, Berkeley and Alessandra, and five grandsons, Jason, Laird, Ethan, Owen and Liam. Councilmember Barrows' involvement in Cerritos started with coaching over 34 City sports teams between 1980 and 1989.
