How to Request Public Records

Copies of City public records may be requested by any of the methods below.

Complete a Request for Public Records form and deliver by US Postal Mail or in person (during regular business hours) to:

Public Records Requirements

The California Public Records Act requires that upon receipt of a request for City records, the City shall determine within 10 days if the records are accessible and available within the City’s records system; and respond to the requestor of such determination.

Fees may be applicable and are listed on the request form.


Copies of Building Permits and Plans

Copies of building permits may be requested using the methods above.

Building plans may be accessible for viewing only by contacting the Cerritos Building and Safety Division at (562) 916-1209.

Copies of building plans can only be obtained by the property owner or as authorized by the original design professional (i.e. architect). Building plans may be located offsite and take approximately seven to 10 days to obtain, following the request.


Vital Records

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk maintains Los Angeles County birth, death, and marriage certificates, and other vital records.
