Cerritos Electric Utility

Businesses operating in a commercial or industrial facility in Cerritos may be eligible for a five percent discount on electricity costs. The City operates the Cerritos Electric Utility (CEU), an electric utility that provides clean, reliable and lower-cost electricity to businesses in the City. There is no charge to switch electricity service from Southern California Edison (SCE) to CEU. CEU will provide the energy, while SCE will continue to transmit the electricity. With CEU, businesses will be eligible for any SCE energy rebate and incentive programs. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (562) 916-1220.

Applying for CEU Service

Businesses interested in CEU service must complete and submit the City of Cerritos Application to Receive Electric Services form. Interested parties also have the option to complete the application form online.

Power Sources

Magnolia Power Project

The Magnolia Power Project in Burbank provides a clean, reliable and lower-cost electricity resource for six Southern California cities. The 240-megawatt (MW) power plant serves as a reliable, locally controlled generating plant for the cities of Burbank, Anaheim, Glendale, Pasadena, Colton and Cerritos, which receives approximately 10 megawatts from the Magnolia Power Project.

Boulder Canyon Project

Beginning in October 2017, the CEU began receiving hydroelectric power from the Boulder Canyon Project (BCP). The hydroelectric power associated with BCP is generated from the Hoover Dam. Located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River on the Arizona-Nevada state line, Hoover Dam is one of the world’s largest producers of hydroelectric power, generating four billion kilowatt-hours of energy on average annually. As part of the BCP, the CEU receives approximately 5 MW of power annually. The CEU will continue to receive hydroelectric power from BCP throughout the term of the contract, which is set to expire in 2067.

Daggett Solar Project

The Daggett Solar Project is a shared project with the City of Vernon that commenced generating electricity in December 2023. Located in San Bernardino County, the Daggett Solar Project has a 65 MW solar photovoltaic capacity, and provides 33 MW of 4-hour battery storage capacity. For its share, the City of Cerritos receives 5 MW of renewable energy capacity and 3 MW of battery storage capacity. The 5 MW of capacity procured through this project produces approximately 16,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and contributes a significant amount of electricity from an eligible renewable energy resource, aligning the CEU closer with the State’s Renewable Portfolio Standard Regulations.
