City of Cerritos voters will also decide two ballot measures on March 4, 2025 regarding modifications to generally clean up the City’s Charter and whether voters shall approve any future changes to the City’s General Municipal Election date. The questions on the March 4 ballot measures read as follows:

  • Measure J
    • Shall the Cerritos City Charter be amended to require that voter approval must be obtained for any future change to the City’s general municipal election date, currently established as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each odd-numbered year, and make conforming amendments to the start date of each City Council member’s term and selection date of the Mayor, relating thereto?
  • Measure K
    • Shall the Cerritos City Charter be amended to remove or modify provisions based on superseding and preemptive State law, increase Citywide operational efficiency by eliminating references to outdated business practices, and correct grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors?

California cities are classified as either charter or general law. The City of Cerritos, a Charter City, is authorized to conduct standalone City elections by its Charter, the California State Constitution, and per recent case law, established by the California Second District Court of Appeal decision in March, 2020.
